Leitrim County Council was delighted to welcome one of the most sought after bands on the Irish music scene, LÚNASA, for the first traditional music residency to promote and develop traditional music in Leitrim and to celebrate and promote the rich tradition of music and song in Leitrim.

 

Lúnasa visited different areas in Leitrim during a series of 8 visits over an 18 month period from January 2007 to June 2008. During each two to three day visit they met with local musicians, heard and learned Leitrim tunes and spent time in different community settings. The Lúnasa residency resulted in a 'The Leitrim Equation 1' featuring the band and a host of Leitrim musicians.

 

Their first visit at the end of January 2007 took in the Carrick-on-Shannon area and ended with a sell-out concert in The Dock on Wednesday 31st January. The residency went on to cover many areas in Leitrim including Ballinamore, Carrigallen, Aughavas, Drumkeeran, Drumshanbo/Aughachashel, Ballinaglera, Kiltyclogher, Rossinver, Manorhamilton, Dromahair and Killargue.
